Description

Hypericum calycinum is an evergreen ground cover. It grows 1' high and spreads by underground runners. In some areas, it is considered invasive because of these runners. Yellow flowers bloom in the summer. Foliage is dark green in sun and yellow green in shade. It prefers sandy and alkaline soil. It can grow in full sun to full shade. It does well in average, well draining soil. In frost-free areas, this ground cover is evergreen and in cold winter areas, this plant is deciduous but comes back in spring. This plant does well in covering areas with tree roots. It can be planted on slopes to stabilize hillsides. It does not do well in humid areas, suffering from root rot and wilt.
