This lavender has green leaves and will grow 3' H x 5' W. It has lavender flowers that are prominent in the spring and summer months.

Dianthus caryophyllus is a perennial. Produces double flowers, bluish green leaves, and leafy stems that often become woody at the base.

A very showy shrub-like perennial grows to 2-4 ft. tall. Spreads by underground rhizomes. Bright tubular orange-red summer flowers with yellow-orange throats. Can tolerate low water conditions. Drought tolerant and a hummer attractor. Native of S. Az, Mx and C. Amer 4-5000'. Thrives in wet soil but does not require it. This is the most tolerant of full sun sites.

Clouds of single flowers are produced from spring through fall on this plant, which should be planted in areas that receive part sun. -Monterey Bay Nursery

Sustainable Fertilization

If you mulch heavily as recommended in the compost and mulch fact sheets you should not need traditional fertilization. Sustainable landscapes fertilize themselves as soil organisms break down and recycle the dropped leaves into nutrients.
